Nestled in the heart of the Midwest, Retrovert Candles was founded in 2023 as a tribute to timeless elegance and modern craftsmanship. Growing up, the founders spent countless hours wandering the halls of the Art Institute of Chicago, captivated by the intricate details of classic paintings, the rich textures of antique textiles, and the delicate beauty of centuries-old decorative arts. Those early experiences left an indelible mark, sparking a deep love for historical design and artistic storytelling.

Retrovert Candles was born from that passion—a way to bring the beauty of classic artistry into everyday spaces. Each candle is a carefully curated piece, featuring vintage illustrations, historic textiles, and iconic patterns from past eras that are in the public domain. From the intricate scrollwork of the Renaissance to the natural elegance of the Arts & Crafts movement and the bold geometry of early Modernism, every design tells a story.

But while our inspiration is rooted in history, our craftsmanship is firmly planted in the present. Every candle is hand-poured using sustainable coconut-apricot wax, paraben and phthalate-free fragrances, and a 100% cotton wick, ensuring a clean, even burn that’s as luxurious as it is eco-conscious.
