Retrovert Candles was founded in the Chicago area with a simple idea: the beauty of historic design deserves a place in everyday life.

Inspired by years spent exploring the galleries of the Art Institute of Chicago, our team developed a deep appreciation for the intricate details found in classic paintings, antique textiles, decorative arts, and vintage ephemera.

Through the years, we began noticing artistry everywhere — in the ornate borders of antique book covers, the geometry of early modernist patterns, the scrollwork of Renaissance ornament, even the graphic charm of vintage playing cards and postage stamps.
